Welding Gloves Type A (EN 12477): frequently asked questions

What does Type A mean on welding gloves?

Under EN 12477, Type A gloves give higher heat and spatter protection with lower dexterity. They suit MMA (stick), MIG and MAG welding.

What's the difference between Type A and Type B?

Type B gloves give higher dexterity and lower protection, which suits TIG welding where you need fine control. Type A is the tougher choice for spatter-heavy work.

What are Type A welding gloves made from?

Usually thick split or grain leather with heat-resistant stitching and long cuffs, sometimes with an aramid or cotton lining.

How long should welding gloves last?

Replace them if the leather is burnt through, hard or cracked, or if seams split. Keep them dry and oil-free, as damp or greasy leather protects less.
