Footwear: frequently asked questions

What's the difference between EN ISO 20345 and EN ISO 20347?

EN ISO 20345 is for safety footwear, which has a toe cap tested to 200 joules of impact and 15 kN of compression. EN ISO 20347 is for occupational footwear, which has no protective toe cap. If your site requires toe protection, choose EN ISO 20345.

What do SB, S1P, S3, S5 and S7 mean?

SB is safety footwear that meets the basic requirements, including the toe cap. S1P adds a closed heel, antistatic properties, an energy-absorbing heel and penetration resistance. S3 adds a water-resistant upper and a cleated outsole to S1P, S5 is the equivalent for all-rubber or all-polymer footwear such as safety wellingtons, and S7 (introduced in the 2022 version) is S3 with the whole boot tested for water resistance.

What do SR, HRO, CI and WR mean?

SR means the sole has passed the additional slip test on a ceramic floor with glycerine. HRO is a heat-resistant outsole, CI is cold insulation of the sole, and WR means the whole shoe has been tested for water resistance. These markings are in addition to the S class, so check the product page for the full code.

Do I need a metal-free safety boot?

Metal-free boots use composite toe caps and non-metal midsoles, which some wearers find lighter and which avoid setting off metal detectors. They're certified to the same standard as steel-capped boots. Our Metal-Free Safety Footwear collection lists them.

Can I return safety footwear if it doesn't fit?

Yes, non-customised footwear can be returned within 28 days of receiving your order in its original packaging with all tags attached. Products must be returned unworn, unwashed and in their original condition. Unless the item is faulty or wrong, the return postage is at your cost.

Do you deliver to Northern Ireland, the Republic of Ireland and Great Britain?

Yes. UK delivery (Northern Ireland, England, Scotland and Wales) is free on orders over £99 ex VAT and £5.99 ex VAT below that. Delivery after dispatch is next day to Northern Ireland and the Republic of Ireland, and 1–2 working days to Great Britain. Republic of Ireland delivery is free over €99 and €5.99 below that. We don't currently deliver outside the UK and the Republic of Ireland.

Can you supply footwear for a whole team?

Yes. Email sales@theworkwearco.com with the styles, sizes and quantities you need and we'll come back to you with a quote.
